Yes! The week we've all been waiting for! The Tavistock Cup is here, and sports fans everywhere skip out on work so they can zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ...
(Sorry, I'm just not a huge fan of the Tavistock Cup, since I honestly don't even know what courses are involved anymore, and still can't get past the fact that every year the shirts are worse than that 1999 United States Ryder Cup Sunday shirt. Tiger Woods is on a different team this year? What? And everyone arrives in helicopters? Way to keep that image of yourselves as high as possible, guys.)

It's a silly country club competition with good golfers, that gives some money to charity. Golf Channel shows it because Tiger plays. And given that their alternative programing is pipe dream, and Haney project re-runs, it can't be any worse.
I get the charity argument...fine...but helicopters? No one has explained why they all need to be flown in on helicopters. Put the money they spent on fuel for these things towards charity and have them all drive.
Agreed, Anonymous. It isn't like they're doing it to avoid traffic.
Oh it's totally over the top, and I wish they gave more to charity, but I don't think helicopters cost as much as you think they do, a lot of those guys are wearing more expensive watches.
Now the closest to the pin, and hole in one prizes? those are more insanely and disgustingly excessive then the helicopters to me
Its great to see these guys compete when it really DOESN'T matter - you see a lot more of their normally vacant personalities.
Its quite obvious, though, who the competition is marketed to - just pay attention to all the commercials! Private jets, oil exploration companies looking for investors, private banks, etc.
I'm fairly certain this event is on the plasma screen in every CEO's office in the country.
Matt is absolutely right. The Tavistock Cup is an exclusive, BTB event as much as it is an (exhibition) golf tournament. Even the galleries are hand-picked from the creme of the corporate world and the local Orlando business community. At the parties surrounding the tournament, many big dollar deals are going down. And as for the players, it is a way to make an easy check, under little pressure, while wowing the elite gallery by shooting at member pins.
Another atrocious display of gluttony in these difficult times.
