I posted this video over at Devil Ball, but wanted to post it here as well, so it got all the proper play. This is me a few weeks ago at St. Andrews, talking about the new tee on 17. Check it, wreck it, and let me know what you think.
So, the players in the 70's and 80's who had to hit driver from the old 17th tee...should they have been allowed to play from further up and left because it's a difficult tee shot ?
What you're missing is that technology has taken the fear out of what is supposed to be a knee knocker of a shot. Players are hitting 3-wood at most from the traditional teeing ground - a no brainer for these guys.
With this new tee box, the thinking and second guessing is back in the game for these players, as it should be.
The Road Hole isn't supposed to be a transfer from some pitch-n-putt course. Driver is supposed to be in the hands of most players.
