Paul Goydos Joins the 59 Club

Previously, the course record at TPC Deere Run was a nice 71 by J.P. Hayes in 2002. On Thursday at the John Deere Classic, Paul Goydos got to 10-under, stopped for a second, laughed, and then continued down the road to history.

That is, Goydos shot a 12-under 59 on Thursday, becoming the fourth man to do so and the first person to ever go sub-60 on a par-71 track. The previous three to do it all do it on par-72s, with all those meaty, eagle-friendly par-fives around.

Goydos, the man best known for his battle with Sergio Garcia at the Players in 2008 and his incredible personality, needed to cash a 12-footer on the 18th green for the 59, and did so, making it his eighth birdie in his final nine holes.

While there isn't much else to say about this, except congrats and WOW, it is nice to see a guy like Goydos accomplish something so incredible. He is a nice dude, and funny, and I usually like those types of people, so I applaud you Paul and hope that you're not too hungover tomorrow to play. I'd hate for you to miss your tee time after sitting 12-under after 18 holes.
