Tiger Woods' Interview on Tuesday Was Friendly

On Tuesday, Tiger Woods spoke to the media world for the first time since his disappointing finish to the Masters, and it was exactly as Tiger-y as you'd expect from Tiger.

Since all I'm going to say is mean stuff from this point forward, I'll just get into the quotes, with the questions added to show just how short he was about everything. Ready for the fun?!

Q. Is there one dominant player or is there some interchange happening this year to the average fan?
TIGER WOODS: I don't know, I'm not the average fan. I'm out here playing and competing, so that's hard for me to answer that one.

Q. Do you miss being No. 1?
TIGER WOODS: I miss winning. That's the most important thing. That's how you maintain it is you've got to win golf tournaments.

Q. Are you taking anything?
TIGER WOODS: Anti-inflammatories, ice, basic stuff, elevation, nothing major, soft tissue work.

Q. Have you played since then?
TIGER WOODS: Today.

Q. Nine holes?
TIGER WOODS: Nine holes today, yeah.

Q. When did you start hitting balls?
TIGER WOODS: Yesterday.

Q. What are your expectations for this week?
TIGER WOODS: Well, same as always, try and win the event. Nothing has changed.

Q. I know you and Bubba are friends. I was curious about your reaction to what he said last week about you going in the wrong direction.
TIGER WOODS: That was interesting.

Q. He said this morning that you guys haven't had a chance to talk.
TIGER WOODS: Not yet.

Q. Do you have an issue with it?
TIGER WOODS: We'll talk.

I mean, sigh. The guy just doesn't get it. He really, really doesn't. It wasn't like the reporters were asking extremely pointed questions or anything. They were asking about the injury and his thoughts on his game and what he might think of the comments made by Bubba Watson.

I'd love just once, just once, for everyone in the media to agree not to ask ANYTHING serious at all for an entire Tiger press conference. "So Tiger, have you seen Thor? Thoughts?" "Tiger, what do you think Phil Jackson is going to do?" "Tiger, where were you when you learned about the death of Osama Bin Laden?" "Mr. Woods, how much would you pay for a photo of Lindsay Lohan as a vampire?"

How great would this be? He could be as jovial as he wanted the entire time, the media could undercut him without him realizing it, and we could all walk away a winner. I'm suggesting this when I become president of Golfjournalistsquestions.com, just you wait.

Tiger isn't going to give long answers about himself, or call out another player. It's who he is.
Do you want him to be someone he isn't? He answered the question. This way the reporters get to ask more questions :).

But hey I'm all for a silly question press conference. I still don't understand why nobody asked why he always sits on the left of the plane :)

You really aren't a fan of Tiger Woods, are you?

Three questions for you Shane B.
Give us your desired answers to the questions you listed that you wanted to hear from Woods.
And, do you truly wished for a monochromatic society, where everyone has the same thoughts, see the glass only half empty, one race, one religion etc
If Woods answers were different, would you then become a great , happier, less judgmental, charitable, loving, kind and gentle, sharing, god fearing human being

Tiger has not said anything meaningful in an interview since 1997. I'd be willing to bet if you took every interview from 1998 until now you would see that he has said absolutely nothing in 14 years.

Famous Tiger go-to quotes:

"It is what it is" - this is somewhat new, but he really really likes it

"I am not rollin the rock" - Count bad putting references since 1998 I bet it is astronomical how many times he has blamed his putting. I think Tiger should take the old advice, if you having trouble putting hit it closer to the hole.

"I'm close" - i guess he keeps telling himself that

I really like your strategy of asking him off the wall questions, or better yet, not show up at all for his interview.

@mike - I have longed opined that if the Media is so unhappy about Woods answers in the Pressers, why not ask him not to show up. or tell the PGA tour not to have him show up.Guess who would be the happiest , Woods or the Media. The media is aware that Woods says very little, Woods knows that and the Media knows that Woods knows it - therein lies the angst, because somehow in the Media minds Woods owes them and should be so grateful because if this was 1960, he would not be playing but caddying

@mike - Tiger actually occasionally does say interesting things in his pressers, just not generally about himself.

For instance his answers on Seve, talking about Trevino yesterday.

Players very rarely say anything other then my game is good, coming together, whatever, when talking about their own games. Phil yesterday said he's excited cause he's driving the ball better then ever. He drove into so many water hazards last week, I'm surprised Bones doesn't have snorkel equipment in the bag.

Hmmm, he's not winning, he's not engaged with the media or his fans, he's not a good person (in general)... why do people still like this guy?!?

People still like him because at one time he was all those things and he brought the game of golf to a whole new audience. I think he's loosing that audience pretty quickly though.
