Hey folks, want to hear something crazy??!?! If Player X finishes third this week, and Player W misses the cut, then Player Y will pass Player V in the Official World Rankings!!! Isn't that insane?!?!?!?!
Sadly, that conversation actually happens, and it happens a lot, and it needs to stop. The Official World Rankings are something that used to be dominated by Tiger Woods, and nobody other than players setting goals before each season cared much about them. It was Tiger .............................................................. and then everybody else.
But recently, with Tiger dropping down the rankings, and whoever else jumping ahead of him, it is a topic every week. And it's pointless. Why? Because of this small fact that everyone obsessed with these rankings should probably read two or three times a day for the next week; These rankings are going to continue to change every single week. Why? Because some players play these weeks, and others play the other weeks! I know, insane concept!
Maybe we should change these things and make them a part of the FedEx Cup, or the Race to Dubai, or something that merits pushing for a season ending high ranking, but for now, it is a revolving door and that isn't going to stop until someone goes all Tiger in '01 on this game.
So can we please, please, chill out on this topic. It isn't that interesting, it is as cemented a scale as a bowl of Vitamin Water, and honestly, do we really care?
