Exactly zero names have shifted on the top of the Dubai Desert Classic leaderboard. Rory McIlroy is still leading, this after a second round 68 that has him one shot clear of two guys, Thomas Aiken and Sergio Garcia, both matching their Thursday 67s with Friday 67s to stay in second.
But it's a man that moved up 22 spots that is making everyone focus on a tournament half the world away. Tiger Woods shot a 66, his best round of an early 2011, and good enough to jump him to 7-under, just four shots back of McIlroy.
What were the good signs from Woods? He started to make some putts. While his ball striking still isn't as good as it usually is (he hit only 50 percent of his fairways on Friday and 13 of 18 greens in regulation), the putts are dropping, and he needed only 25 in his second round.
If Tiger could keep doing this, maybe we could start talking about him again as a regular atop leaderboard. The problem is, is sure seems that TIger throws one of these rounds in a tournament to get us pumped up, only to lay a stinker the next day.
