Phil Mickelson Will Use Two Drivers at Augusta

You have to admit this - with Phil Mickelson, it's never that simple. A week after going 63-65, Lefty has decided to go with two drivers in his bag instead of a 3-iron, because he wants to get 20 or so more yards with the lower-lofted driver. Btw, Phil hits it as far as anyone in the world. That's what he needs - more yardage.

“I am going to have two drivers this week,” Mickelson said. As he explained in Houston, the spec changes are in length and loft.

“One of the lofts is 7 1/2 [degrees], one of the lofts is 5.9. Longer shaft. Just I try to get another 15, 20 out of it, which I think it does.”

Obviously this guy knows his game, and Augusta National, better than anybody, but I just don't know about this. What if the wind picks up No. 4? Or what if he doesn't exactly catch a drive on one of the par-5s and he needs that 3-iron? Or what if he has to punch out, which is super likely with the driving accuracy of Mickelson?

Again, I'm not one to judge a guy that has won this event three times, but I just feel that this type of change, for two swings the entire day, seems a little too macho, and a little shortsighted. I guess we will see over the week if he is ever in a position where he wishes he could have that iron back in his bag.
